The big question is whether ‘different’ will be enough to pose a serious challenge to market leaders Samsung and iPhone.
Here’s what you need to know.
Google Pixel 6 Features
Here’s a quick introduction to the Pixel 6 from Google.
The Pixel 6 promises to be feature-rich, and as far as we know, will be available in black, green and pink. The Pixel Pro will be available in yellow, grey and black. These colours may change, or availability might be different in Australia.
Other features include:
- The Pixel 6 will have a dual-lens camera, while the Pixel 6 Pro will have a triple-lens camera.
- All of the Pixel 6 range will feature the Google Tensor chipset, a custom-built SoC (system-on-a-chip) that uses ML (machine learning) to help you get the most out of your experience with Pixel.
- Rumours suggest that the Pixel 6 will have a 6.4-inch screen and the Pro a screen of between 6.67 and 6.71 inches.
- Battery life hasn’t been great in previous models, but it is anticipated that Google will have made some improvements and that the Tensor SoC will help extend battery life. Just don’t expect to find a charger in the box!
How Much Will a Google Pixel 6 Cost?
There’s no definitive answer at the moment, but many of the announcements to date suggest that it will be more of a premium product.

Looking back at the Australian pricing of some of the previous Pixel models (the Pixel 5 started at $999; the Pixel 4a 5G started at $799), our guess is that the price for the Pixel 6 will start at over $1000. Add another $500 or so for the PIxel Pro.
Final Thoughts
Given the level of competition from Samsung and Apple, Google definitely has its work cut out if it wants the Pixel 6 to make an impact. Industry-leading cameras, competitive pricing and security updates will help increase its appeal, plus there’s likely to still be a few surprises that Google have kept under wraps. If you’re in the market for a new phone, we reckon it’s worth giving the Pixel 6 a go. Who wants to have the same phone as everyone else anyway?!
