Web design in Corrimal

A lot of businesses here have been trading for decades and have a website from one of them. That is a fixable problem, and usually a cheaper one than people expect.

The blind spot

Businesses older than their websites.

Corrimal has one of the more settled business strips in the northern suburbs. Shops that have been in the same hands for years, trades whose work comes from people who already know them, services where the customer's parents were customers.

That is a genuine advantage, and it makes a specific problem easy to miss. When your work arrives by reputation, the website stops being the front door and becomes an afterthought. Then a competitor opens two suburbs away with no reputation at all and a site that ranks, loads fast and takes bookings, and starts collecting everyone who has not heard of you yet.

Reputation is not the thing at risk. New customers are. They are the ones searching.

The honest answer

Refresh or rebuild, and how to tell.

Not every dated website needs replacing. Some need a hard afternoon of work; some are past saving. We will tell you which yours is, with reasons, before you spend anything.

It is usually worth refreshing if the structure and content are sound and it just looks its age, it works on a phone even if awkwardly, you can edit it yourself without a developer, and it loads reasonably quickly.

It is usually worth rebuilding if it was designed before mobile mattered and pinches and zooms, if nobody has the logins or the person who built it is gone, if it runs on software that no longer gets security updates, or if every small change costs money and a week.

The second is more common than the first around here, mostly because sites built ten or fifteen years ago sit on platforms that have been abandoned since. Website design

Local search

Getting found by people two streets away.

Corrimal sits in a tight run of suburbs between Towradgi and Bulli, strung along the highway and the train line. Someone searching from home may be equally happy with a business here, one stop south or one stop north, and Google will show them all three. Which one appears first is not luck.

It comes down to a handful of unglamorous things: whether your site clearly says where you work, whether your business details match everywhere they appear online, whether your Google Business Profile is properly filled in, and whether your pages load before someone gives up.

We handle those as part of a build, and as ongoing work when a market is competitive enough to need it. SEO

While you are at it

While the site is being rebuilt.

A rebuild is the natural moment to fix the rest of it. If your logo is a scanned JPG, if your shopfront signage and your website disagree about your colours, or if you have never had proper print files, that is all one job rather than three.

Straight answers

Common questions about local web design.

The same five questions come up wherever we are working across the Illawarra, so here they are answered once.

Does my business need its own page for each area it works in?

Not always, and doing it badly is worse than not doing it. It is worth it when you genuinely service several distinct markets and the searches for them are separate, and it is only worth it if each page says something true and specific about that area. A set of near-identical pages with the place name swapped is something Google actively penalises, and we will not build them that way.

Do I need a shopfront to show up in local search?

No. Plenty of businesses across Wollongong and the Illawarra work from a ute, a home office or a yard and rank perfectly well locally. What matters is that your business details are consistent everywhere they appear, your Google Business Profile is set up correctly for a service area rather than an address, and your website is clear about where you actually work.

My customers come from several different areas. Does that change the website?

It changes the structure more than the design. If you travel across the region, the site needs to say so in a way people and search engines can both read, rather than leaving them to guess from your phone number. We work that out with you at the start, because retrofitting it later usually means rebuilding pages.

Do you come to us, or does it all happen over the phone?

Both work. We are based in the region and cover Wollongong and the Illawarra, so meeting in person is easy to arrange when it helps. Plenty of projects run entirely by phone, email and screen share, which suits people who cannot stop work for a meeting. Your call, not ours.

What happens after the website goes live?

The site is submitted to Google properly rather than left to be found, and you get shown how to update the things you will want to change yourself. After that you can look after it or we can, with hosting, backups, security updates and changes as you need them. Either way you own the site, the domain and the accounts.
