Web design in Unanderra

In an industrial suburb the website is rarely the thing that wins the job. It is the thing that gets you onto the list of people allowed to quote.

The buying process

When your customer is another business.

Unanderra's business base sits in the workshops, yards and units off the Princes Highway and around the rail line: fabrication, engineering, machining, transport, hire, servicing, specialist trades. A large share of the work is business to business, and business to business buying does not look like retail buying.

Nobody impulse-buys a fabrication run. What happens instead is that someone with a job to place builds a shortlist. They ring one supplier they have used, ask a contact for a name, and search for two more. Then they look up all four, including the one they were told about, and quietly drop anyone who looks like they might not still be trading.

That last step is where an out-of-date website costs real money, and you never find out it happened.

Thirty secondsWhat an industrial website has to prove in thirty seconds.

Not sell. Prove. A buyer scanning your site is checking a short list of facts, and if they cannot find them quickly they move on rather than ring to ask.

Capability

What you actually do, in the words the industry uses, not marketing abstraction. If you machine to a tolerance, say the tolerance.

Capacity

Plant, equipment, bed sizes, tonnages, fleet. This is the question buyers most often cannot answer from a website, and it is the one that decides whether they bother calling.

Currency

A copyright date from four years ago and a phone number that has changed reads as "possibly closed".

Credentials

Certifications, licences, insurances, inductions, safety systems. Big customers will not proceed without them.

Who to ring

A direct number and a named person beats a generic form every time in this sector.

Photographs of your own workshop and your own jobs do more here than any amount of design. If you have them we will use them, and if you do not, take some. Website design

Proof

We already work on this highway.

Unanderra Mower Centre has been selling and servicing outdoor power equipment on the Princes Highway since 1963 and is still family owned. They had the reputation and the workshop; what they did not have was anything online carrying it.

We built them a site that puts the range and the workshop side by side, with the brands they stock, what they service, and the address, hours and phone number never more than a tap away. Then we designed the A5 flyer for the counter, leading with the 1963 story and giving the ride-on buying process its own section, because a ride-on is a considered purchase and the demo, delivery and lesson are what set them apart. We still host and maintain the site, so the workshop can get on with the workshop.

One brand, several surfaces

The website is one surface out of several.

For a business in this suburb, the website has to agree with the ute, the yard sign, the capability statement and the quote document. Buyers see all of them and inconsistency reads as disorganisation.

We do the lot: logo redraws into proper vector files your signwriter will not complain about, capability statements, flyers, vehicle artwork and signage set up print-ready. Graphic design

If competitors are appearing above you for the terms your buyers use, that is a separate and usually winnable piece of work. SEO

Most businesses in these yards work both directions along the highway, towards the consulting suites one way and the port the other.Web design in FigtreeWeb design in Port Kembla

Straight answers

Common questions about local web design.

The same five questions come up wherever we are working across the Illawarra, so here they are answered once.

Does my business need its own page for each area it works in?

Not always, and doing it badly is worse than not doing it. It is worth it when you genuinely service several distinct markets and the searches for them are separate, and it is only worth it if each page says something true and specific about that area. A set of near-identical pages with the place name swapped is something Google actively penalises, and we will not build them that way.

Do I need a shopfront to show up in local search?

No. Plenty of businesses across Wollongong and the Illawarra work from a ute, a home office or a yard and rank perfectly well locally. What matters is that your business details are consistent everywhere they appear, your Google Business Profile is set up correctly for a service area rather than an address, and your website is clear about where you actually work.

My customers come from several different areas. Does that change the website?

It changes the structure more than the design. If you travel across the region, the site needs to say so in a way people and search engines can both read, rather than leaving them to guess from your phone number. We work that out with you at the start, because retrofitting it later usually means rebuilding pages.

Do you come to us, or does it all happen over the phone?

Both work. We are based in the region and cover Wollongong and the Illawarra, so meeting in person is easy to arrange when it helps. Plenty of projects run entirely by phone, email and screen share, which suits people who cannot stop work for a meeting. Your call, not ours.

What happens after the website goes live?

The site is submitted to Google properly rather than left to be found, and you get shown how to update the things you will want to change yourself. After that you can look after it or we can, with hosting, backups, security updates and changes as you need them. Either way you own the site, the domain and the accounts.
